Unit 4

Fragance Creation and Evaluation

Fragrance Pathway

Divided into four distinct sections, this module provides you with the background you’ll need for the creation of fragrances for a range of end uses. You’ll learn about the legal and safety constraints of the creative process and how to produce fragrance effectively within them.

Section one will give you an introduction into the mechanism of olfaction and fragrance language, that reinforces and develops the sensory studies explored in Module Two. Section two of this module gives you detailed information on all the odour groups used across the industry, with knowledge on how they’re composed and used.

Section three provides deeper insight into how the perfumer works with fragrance ingredients. Discovering how perfume interacts with the body, both physically and psychologically, you’ll look the creative inspiration behind certain perfumes, learn more on the business of ‘functional perfumery’ and the limitations faced in their creation.

The fourth and final section focuses on the role of the Evaluator and how this affects the process of fragrance development and project management.
