Unit 10
Project Management and the Briefing Process
Projects are a vital feature to understand because they are such a key aspect of the roles of many in the Aroma Trades. In this module, you'll learn the skills that will enable you to manage both the 'hard' and 'soft' elements of any project with comprehensive coverage of both the briefing process and project management.
The module begins with an overview of the nature of projects common in the industry. By breaking them down into key stages, you'll understand each part of the process from start to finish. The first stage of the module will summarise project pre-initiation and initiation, planning and planning tools, and implementation, together with project delivery and close-out.
The second stage will focus on the briefing process in detail, helping you understand each section including focus on all the stakeholders for an Aroma Trades brief, communications and time-management, as well as the '13 Ps' theory in application to the fragrance and flavour brief.
You’ll also explore team dynamics, team leadership and the roles of the individual within the team throughout the briefing and project management process.

“As with the other ICATS modules, we have produced a fusion of MBA level theory, with decades of experience of its practical application, within the context of the Aroma Trades value chain. As with other aspects of Management Theory there are specific issues that are unique to the Aroma Trades (e.g. the preeminent role of the Evaluator in brief management in the Creative Fragrance House).”
